Williams sisters dominance is coming to an end, says Tsvetana Pironkova

Tsvetana Pironkova has warned the Williams sisters that their dominance is coming to an end after yesterday inflicting the biggest shock of the championships.

The unseeded Bulgarian thrashed five-time champion Venus Williams 6-2 6-3 in 85 minutes.

She plays Vera Zvonareva in the semi-finals tomorrow, with a likely showdown against defending champion Serena Williams on Sunday awaiting the winner.

Pironkova had never advanced further than the second round of a Grand Slam tournament before, although she beat Venus in three sets in the first round of the Australian Open in 2006.

And she insisted she was not scared of the American pair, who boast 19 Grand Slam titles between them.

"You know at one point it will end," said Pironkova, referring to the sisters' monopoly on titles. "I guess it may be soon.

"They are still among the best players in the world but I really pushed her.

"Winning 6-2 6-3 was the biggest surprise for me - I expected it to be a longer match. It was quicker than I thought."
